Explanation of the Senatorial Convention Committees
Credentials
The Credentials Committee prepares the permanent roll of the Senatorial Convention and helps with the administration of sign-in and registration. The permanent roll names all delegates who are eligible to vote and participate in the conduct of the convention business.
Nominations
The Nominations Committee allocates at-large delegates in accordance with the results of the Senate District sign-in sheets without disturbing the results of the precinct caucuses (if held). The committee assesses the demographics of the delegation and recommends at-large delegates to complete the senatorial delegation to the State Convention. The list of the committee’s nominees is then submitted to the full convention for adoption.
Platform and Resolutions
The Resolutions Committee reviews and debates all resolutions brought before the Senatorial Convention. Resolutions and any proposed party platform planks are considered by the committee. The committee members will then determine whether to recommend them to the full body for adoption. The Senate District Convention as a whole will decide whether to adopt the committee’s recommendations and refer them to the Texas Democratic Party’s (TDP) Temporary Resolutions Committee.
Rules
The Rules Committee resolves any dispute arising while interpreting the Rules of the Texas Democratic Party (TDP) and proposes any special rules that may help the convention do business more efficiently or effectively. The committee also reviews and debates proposed changes to the TDP’s Rules brought before the Senatorial Convention. After consideration, the members of the committee will determine whether to recommend rules changes to the full body for adoption. The Senatorial Convention as a whole will decide whether to adopt the committee’s recommendations and refer them to the TDP Temporary Rules Committee.
Operations
The Operations Committee, perhaps the most important, procures the convention location, plans the details of the convention, including aspects of the convention program, ad sales, sign-up materials, decorations, food, tables, publicity, and many other collaborative efforts of administration and support.
